Dr. Kate Xie is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, refractive, and anterior segment surgery.
Dr. Xie grew up in Orange County, where she graduated as valedictorian from Troy High School in Fullerton. She earned her undergraduate degree cum laude from Harvard University in Neurobiology and Mind, Brain, and Behavior, then completed her medical degree and ophthalmology residency at the University of California, Irvine, where she was selected as chief resident in her final year. She went on to complete a rigorous fellowship in cornea, refractive, and anterior segment surgery at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Xie is passionate about achieving outstanding outcomes in cataract and corneal surgery and staying at the forefront of technology. She is trained in refractive cataract surgery, femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery, complex cataract surgery, intraocular lens exchange, secondary intraocular lens implantation, LASIK, PRK, and corneal transplantation (DSEK, DMEK, and PKP), and she specializes in the medical management of ocular surface and corneal disease.
She is deeply committed to helping her patients achieve the best vision possible. After just one year in practice, she was nationally recognized as a recipient of the 2022 Real World Ophthalmology Practice Trailblazer Award. She loves to learn and to teach, with numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and popular-press publications to her name, and she remains active in her field as a volunteer educator and panelist at local and national meetings.
Dr. Xie feels privileged to return home to serve the community where she grew up. She is married to a pediatrician and spends her free time chasing after their two children. Her hobbies include DIY household projects, trying new foods, and photography. She is proficient in Spanish and Mandarin.
I never give reviews but I have to take time out and share my experience at Beach Eye Medical Group - Irvine office. I had a very negative experience with another Ophthalmologist and was referred to Dr Jwo for treatment of an eye condition. He was very kind and caring. He was thorough and ordered a battery of test and left no stone unturned. The office staff is equally amazing!
I would highly recommend Dr Jwo to anyone needing treatment for their eyes!! I give him 5 stars
